I am always fascinated by our weather, Janice. I was in a tornado in 1989 where my house was struck and we were trapped in our cellar until people dug us out. I remember the sheer power of the wind and the desperation and chaos my mother experienced rushing us all to the hidey hole. Those were my childhood memories.

This weekend I was awe-struck again, but for a much different reason. Instead of being enamored by the wind and chaos, the display of God's power and mercy washed over me like a comforting soft blanket.

My how perceptions change!! :)

I grew up in OK and we spent many nights in the cellar. Very scary stuff for a kid. I remember being stung by a scorpion on one visit to the hidey hole and I also singed the hair of a neighbor girl (accidentally) when I was allowed to hold a candle. I agree with you; I too am always in awe of God's power, especially during storms.
(Sorry it took me so long to respond)

[...] Our round the world trip today lands at Gathering Rubies the blog of Janice Garrison. While I normally encourage you to click the original source, rather than reading here; it applies doubly so today since I had a tough time choosing among several good recent blog exhortations. Most of us have seen an eroding of standards in both written and oral communication both outside and within the Church. I believe that those who bear the name of Christ should aim for the highest standards. Janice titled this, Think Before You Speak. [...]

Thank you for sharing my blog, I am very honored!!
I’m certainly not a great writer, I do write from my heart and my main desire has always been to use this source as a way to reach both the unbeliever and the believer. My hope is that we take being a follower of Christ seriously and glorify God everyday by our words and actions.

Excellent thoughts, and I so agree. The shortened form of the slang, some of it vulagar, has become so standard that even Christian folks use it without a 2nd thought. I appreciate your thoughts here. And Eph. 5 has some things to say about coarse humor, too.

Thank you Warren, it really does make me sad hearing Christians talk or write things that are so offensive. I agree, Eph 5 is another great place showing how we should not talk.

Wow! What a story. I love it! I wish many more people could read this story. It is amazing how inner beauty (self-esteem) can be portrayed on the outside.
You know if I could just relate my worth (an 8 - cow woman) to what Christ paid for me. I should always walk with my head high and realize my true value as a woman.

Karla, "Wow" was my sentiment as well. I really love this story!!

This is so full of wisdom I don't know what particular nugget to comment on. But, since I like how you worded it so much, I'll pick this one: "I find it interesting and baffling that instead of trying to prove the negativity wrong by demonstrating the opposite behavior, we began to act out the label(s) given to us."

I have seen this work itself out in so many people's lives, including my own. One person who refused to believe what was said to or about him, trusted God, and has simply done his best, is Tim Tebow. And look where God has permitted him to go. Great lesson in his example, and in your excellent post. Good job. WB

Thank you for your kind words Warren. This was so true in my own life and it took me years of making bad choices and acting out in negativity ways before I learned to believe there was any good in me. I too see it in others, especially teens, and it breaks my heart.

Love this. I have been straining to hear Him speak to me lately. I know He is, but my head is swirling full of the world. Thanks for posting this.

Thank you Sara! I completely understand. Last night I was allowed to see Him at work in my life. It was so wonderful. I have been praying for someone who I've not had a lot of closness with and twice in one week (including yesterday) this person has been a huge blessing to me.
