Is it all about ME??

This morning I watched a video by Dr. Keith Ablow which a friend posted on Face Book. The title is “We Are Raising a Generation of Deluded Narcissist”. Dr. Ablow says “I have been writing a great deal over the past few years about the toxic psychological impact of media and technology on children, adolescents and young adults, particularly as it regards turning them into faux celebrities—the equivalent of lead actors in their own fictionalized life stories.”

After watching the video my thoughts turned to how far removed the mindset of narcissism is from how God created us. I will share a few examples from scripture that point away from the me of narcissism to the oneness in scripture. As Christians we must be aware of our actions and be on our guard that we do not fall into the snare of the world, and that we do not set ourselves up as gods to be worshipped.

Rom 12:10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Rom 12:16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

Rom 13:8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.

Eph 4:2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

Eph 4:3 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Eph 5:21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

1 Thess 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.

1 Peter 1:22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.

1 Peter 4:9-11 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.

1 John 4:7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.

And finally, Phil 2:1-4 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
